Welcome to:
South Kent Energy Park
South Kent Energy Park is a proposed solar and energy storage project in Kent that would generate and store renewable electricity for homes and businesses, alongside the infrastructure needed to connect it to the national grid.
Once operational, the project is expected to generate enough clean electricity to power more than 140,000 homes each year. By combining solar generation with battery storage, it would help strengthen the supply of renewable energy while supporting the reliability of the electricity network.
South Kent Energy Park would make an important contribution to the UK’s transition to a cleaner, more secure energy system and support national ambitions to expand low-carbon electricity generation and achieve net zero by 2050.
As a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project, South Kent Energy Park will go through a detailed planning and consultation process before any decision is made. We anticipate submitting an application for development consent to the Planning Inspectorate in Summer 2027.
The final decision will be made by the Government, through the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. Subject to consent being granted, construction could begin from 2030.
Where we are now
Environmental surveys are continuing across the project site as we develop our proposals and refine the emerging layout.
Feedback gathered during our Winter 2024/25 community consultation has been recorded and shared with the project team to help inform the emerging layout.
More recently, we submitted our Scoping Report to the Planning Inspectorate as part of the ongoing development of the project.
What is the Scoping Report?
The Scoping Report is an early-stage document that sets out the proposed scope of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for South Kent Energy Park. It identifies the key environmental and social topics that should be considered in more detail as the project develops.
The report is submitted to the Planning Inspectorate, which then provides a Scoping Opinion. This sets out the matters that should be assessed in the Environmental Statement that will accompany the future Development Consent Order application. More information about the project, including the Scoping Report, is available on the project website.
